Politicians score points on gaming business problem
Today in the Pushkin Square there was an event of collecting signatures for the pre-term closure of all gambling facilities in Moscow. The event had been jointly organized by the “Spravedlivaya Rossiya” party and A. Lebedev. According to the proclamation of the spearhead, the deputies, worried by the moral condition of citizens, had appealed to Moscow City Duma asking them to pass a law on the complete ban of gaming business in Moscow from July 1st, 2007. For the law to be adopted as soon as possible, it needs collecting 50 000 signatures under the appeal to the mayor.
However the declared “large-scale” event turned out to be a piece of communication of Mr Lebedev and Mr Samoshin with the media of the capital city. Collecting signatures took exactly an hour and a half – just as much time as journalists were present in the square. The picketers left the area together with the last reporter. It is noteworthy that the invitations to the today’s “all-over-the-city” event were sent only to the media. It can be assumed that such a rate will not make it possible to collect a more or less considerable number of authentic Muscovites’ signatures. It is not improbable that so transparent a PR-event of Mr Lebedev will leave no doubt: the topic of gaming business is just an additional advertising spot for him and the corresponding “spearhead”.
