Casinos and slot-machine halls across Russia have closed as a new law took effect that imposes sweeping new restrictions on the gaming industry.
Using uncharacteristically stern language, President Dmitry Medvedev told Federal Tax Service chief Mikhail Mokretsov on Tuesday that he would tolerate no delays in moving all gambling to special regional zones within two months.
A gambling association in southern Russia has asked for a delay to the opening of a gambling zone in the region, which will replace city casinos, saying the designated area needs another three years of development.
The presentation of your new book "Legal Regulation of Gambling Business in the Former Soviet Countries" was held in London, during the Gaming Awards 2009 ceremony. Of, course, not everyone could attend this event. Please tell us, how did it go?
The Responsible Gaming Fund and Storm International are announcing the first English-language edition of Evgeny Kovtun’s book “Legal regulation of gambling in former USSR countries”. The book will be presented at the annual Gaming Awards ceremony in London, in January 2009.
