Southern gaming zone to be placed on deserted coast of the Azov Sea
The special gaming zone in Krasnodar region – one of the four regions to have such zones – will be placed on the coast of the Azov Sea, in a hardly inhabited area, informs RIA “Novosti” quoting the Governor of Krasnodar region Alexander Tkachyov.
"We have placed our zone on the coast of the Azov Sea, in the nearly deserted, completely undeveloped area. Therefore it will need considerable funds for developing infrastructure and building an airport. In general, we will have to build a new city in the middle of nowhere”, said Tkachyov on April 11th, at the press conference in Vienna which he visited to make a presentation of Krasnodar region.
The Governor said that the region was enthusiastic to take part in the competition for selecting gaming zone territories. “We eagerly participated in it and won”, he said, adding that there was “quite a violent fight of the regions for the right to place such a zone”.
Tkachyov believes that the gaming zone will contribute to the development of the regional south-east, making, as the Governor puts it, “an additional growth point, as it happened in Las Vegas and Atlantic City”. “Therefore we are killing two birds with one stone. On the one hand, removing gambling facilities from cities and districts of the region, and together with them – the shadow business and other negative effects, on the other hand developing the territory which has never had a development strategy, at least a short-term one”, said Tkachyov.
