V. Matvienko did not sign law correcting address list of placing gambling facilities in Saint Petersburg
Valentina Matvienko, Petersburg Governor, returned without signing the amendments to the law “On placing gambling facilities in Saint Petersburg”, passed by the city parliament on March 7th, 2007.
The head of the city grounded her decision on the fact that, in compliance with the federal legislation, properly licensed gambling facilities are entitled to continue their operations till June 30th, 2009. Meanwhile the federal legislation does not provide for the right of RF constituent territories to set new requirements to properly licensed gambling facilities. V. Matvienko also drew the deputies` attention to the fact that Saint Petersburg legislation can not introduce new restrictions of activities involved in gambling organization and arrangement, including new requirements to gambling facilities.
