Moscow authorities to shut down half of gambling facilities by June 1
Moscow authorities plan to close more than half of the currently functioning casinos. Out of almost fifty casinos only 22 will remain open by June 1, and out of 800 slot-halls only 300 will stay in business. According to Deputy Mayor of Moscow, Iosif Ordzhonikidze, this is not the final action of Moscow government. He reminded that by January 1 of the current year around 2,000 slot-halls were closed since their activity did not comply with the legislation. Federal law was passed which specified requirements for gambling facilities` premises: total area of the casino should be not less than 3,000 sq. m. and 200 sq. m. for slot halls. Ordzhonikidze estimates that only 230 slot halls and about 20 casinos will remain in Moscow in a long-term perspective.
