“A city will be founded here”?
Sergei Kolesnikov, a deputy of the RF State Duma, meeting with Irkutsk journalists, declared that setting up “a gaming city” in the area of the Baikal (one of the four zones where it is planned to place gambling facilities) may bring additional income to Irkutsk Region, still it would be better to implement the project together with Republic of Buryatia. “Should this project be approved, travel business will start developing in the region and new employment opportunities will appear”, believes the deputy. “However, here, as in the case with a special economic area, we need to collaborate with Buryatia”. The deputy thinks that, sticking to ecological standards, gaming business development will not harm the lake: “Now hotel complexes are being built next to water reservoirs, without any harm to the ecology”.
