Legislators Fixed Places for Gambling
State Duma’s Economic Policy Committee has determined potential whereabouts of future gambling zones, ITAR-TASS said. Under the laws of Russia, no more than four gambling zones could be created in the country, and the committee recommended Kaliningrad Region, Altai Republic, Primorie District and an area on border of Rostov Region and Krasnodar District for this purpose.
Another crucial proposal of the committee to the State Duma is extending by six months till July 1, 2009 the dates of transferring casinos to the gambling zones, RIA Novosti reported.
President Vladimir Putin announced the intention to toughen control over the gambling October 3 and the State Duma passed the president’s bill in the first reading in mid.-November.
In initial wording, the bill specified creation of two types of zone – the settlement zones and the special gambling zones. It also spelled out banning the Internet gambling.
In the next effort, State Duma is likely to attempt to bypass the formal ban on exchange future transactions, as they are deemed a sort of bet under the laws of Russia.
